Winter Weekend Day Shelter Coordinator
During the cold winter months, a day shelter offers a warm place for people who have nowhere else to go. This shelter provides an opportunity to catch one's breath, eat a meal, have a conversation, and meet other people. For people without a residence permit, weekends are often extra difficult, as regular shelters are closed then. A social organization and a humanitarian organization jointly open the doors of this winter weekend day shelter.
Visitors can come here for warmth, rest, coffee or tea, a warm meal, a shower, a charged phone, and above all, a place where they feel welcome.
What you will do. As a coordinator, you are an important link within the day shelter. You ensure that volunteers know what is expected of them and that visitors feel welcome. Your tasks include:
- Coordinating, planning, and supervising the day shelter and the volunteers.
- Being a point of contact for volunteers during the shelter's operation.
- Developing and planning activities and workshops that contribute to a pleasant and meaningful day for visitors. This could include workshops from the humanitarian organization, offerings from other local organizations, or, for example, organizing a free haircut or a creative activity.
- Supporting practical tasks, such as serving meals and coffee or tea.
- Maintaining contact with the coordinators and sharing observations and signals.
- Contributing to a safe, respectful, and welcoming atmosphere.
