Basic Doctor ANIOS Geriatric Medicine

As a Basic Doctor / ANIOS in geriatric medicine, you will have the opportunity to discover which specialty truly suits you.

• Geriatric medicine is versatile, with patients where somatic, psychiatric, medication, behavior, family, and quality of life all come together.
• You look beyond a single diagnosis and quickly gain a lot of personal responsibility.
• You will work with vulnerable elderly people within various forms of care, such as psychogeriatrics, somatics, acquired brain injury, Parkinson's disease, geriatric rehabilitation, first-line care, and palliative care.
• You will be responsible for various departments within one or two care locations.
• Collaboration will be with Geriatric Specialists, AIOS, Nurse Specialists, Physician Assistants, nurses, psychologists, and paramedics.
• After an induction period, you will work independently, with accessible supervision from a Geriatric Specialist.
• This role offers the opportunity to develop skills that are useful in almost every medical specialty.
• You will learn to make independent medical decisions, deal with complex multimorbidity, set priorities, and look at the person behind the illness.
• Opportunities are available to progress to the training for Geriatric Specialist.

What you will do.

• Perform medical examinations and make diagnoses.
• Draw up and adjust treatment plans.
• Conduct ward rounds in your departments.
• Lead within the multidisciplinary treatment team.
• Have extensive contact with patients, family, and other healthcare professionals.
• Supervise medical students.
• Participate in on-call duties: approximately one evening/night every two weeks and a maximum of one weekend every six weeks.
