In the new Research and Development Centre, you will work in an international team on innovative genome diagnostics, from NIPT to long-read sequencing. We are looking for two enthusiastic laboratory specialists in clinical genetics. Due to the retirement of two colleagues, excellent positions are becoming available. You will work in the Genome Analysis laboratory of the Human Genetics department, in the new Research and Development Centre (RDC) of an academic medical center. This center is one of three centers in the Netherlands that performs NIPT (non-invasive prenatal testing) within the national prenatal screening program. The laboratory is ISO 15189-accredited by the Dutch Accreditation Council. You will work closely with analysts and fellow laboratory specialists.
You will also maintain contacts with applicants from within and outside the department. The laboratory provides services to more than 30 departments of the academic medical center. Additionally, you will collaborate with a center for personalized medicine. Together, you strive for rapid diagnostics, effective therapy, and personalized care for children with (a suspected) rare hereditary disorders. For innovation, you will use a Core Facility Genomics.
This facility has advanced equipment for, among other things, RNAseq, single-cell sequencing, long-read sequencing, and automated DNA isolation. You will work in an open and international team, with ample room for development, collaboration, and personal input. Together, you will build future-proof genome diagnostics for patient care.
What you will do.
- interpreting prenatal and postnatal genome diagnostics;
- collaborating in a multidisciplinary team on high-quality diagnostics;
- contributing to innovation within genetics;
- participating in the implementation of new techniques and methods, such as long-read sequencing, RNAseq, and methylation assays.

Practical
- A one-year contract with the prospect of a permanent position.
- Salary scale 13: € 6,911 to € 8,288 gross for a full-time employment (depending on education and experience).
- In addition, you will receive an 8.3% year-end bonus.
- Vacation hours: 194.4 hours per year for full-time employment and the possibility to save up hours.
- 100% public transport reimbursement.
- Reimbursement of €0.21 per km for commuting (for cars, a maximum of 40 km one way applies).
