ICT Administrator Intelligence & Security

UtrechtHybrid38 hours/week<3months

You will work on the management and stability of systems essential for information provision within an intelligence chain.

  • You contribute to socially relevant work for a safe society.
  • You support colleagues with equipment, supplies, and IT.
  • You will work within a team focused on systems in the intelligence and security domain, where stability, security, and technical expertise are paramount.
  • You manage and develop a hybrid landscape of various systems on different platforms.
  • You follow applicable procedures and security guidelines to ensure the integrity and security of the systems.
  • You analyze disruptions, advise on modifications and structural measures, and guide fellow administrators.
  • A lot is planned for the coming period, in which you will have a significant voice.
  • The environment is (highly) classified, with strict change procedures and networks partially separated from the internet. Automation and modern tooling are present but operate differently than in commercial cloud environments.

What they ask

  • HBO/WO (higher professional education/university) work and thinking level with at least 5 years of experience in business-critical system administration, partly in a senior or lead role.
  • In-depth knowledge of Linux OR Windows, and self-sufficiency in the other.
  • Linux side: RHCE level, solving SELinux issues, writing custom systemd units.
  • Windows side: In-depth knowledge of AD, Group Policy, and PKI; understanding of Kerberos ticket requests and PowerShell as a full-fledged language.
  • Automation as a standard working method: scripts in Bash, PowerShell, or Python; experience with tools like Ansible, Terraform, or similar.
  • Network and infrastructure depth: DNS, firewalls, VPNs, load balancing, certificate management, and underlying protocols. End-to-end troubleshooting with tools like tcpdump, Wireshark, or logs.
  • Willingness to perform on-call duties (7x24) in a roster.

Preferences.

  • Cloud or hybrid experience: Azure, AWS, or a private cloud platform, identity federation, VNet/VPC setup, hybrid connections, containerization / orchestration (Podman, Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift). Experience with migrations from whiteboard to production.
  • KVM, Xen, or VMware virtualization at implementation level.
  • SQL databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MS SQL): managing instances, performing truly tested restores, and recognizing when a problem lies with the database rather than the application.
  • Certifications such as RHCE, Azure/AWS, MS Server, VCP, CKA, CCNA, or demonstrable equivalent practical level.

Profile

  • Security is in your DNA: hardening, patch management, principle of least privilege, and meaningful logging are your starting points, not an afterthought. You think in attack paths, not checklists.
  • Work according to ITIL (BISL is a plus).
  • Digging into disruptions to find the true root cause and advising on structural measures.
  • Guiding fellow administrators, clear communication with stakeholders, and taking initiative without asking for permission.
  • Depth and eagerness to learn are more important than a complete checklist.

Practical

  • A security screening at the highest level (VGB-A) is mandatory.
  • You must originate from a country within the European Economic Area, or possess a combined permit for residence and work (GVVA).
