Quality Manager Drone Operations

As a Quality Manager - Drone Operations, you will be the linchpin between researchers, drone operators, regulations, government, and external flight facilities. You ensure that our outdoor drone operations comply with applicable Dutch and European laws and regulations and that the research institution remains operationally in control.

What you will do.

  • Responsible for the operational and regulatory framework surrounding outdoor flights.
  • Monitoring required permits, procedures, risk analyses, and documentation.
  • Ensuring that manuals and operational procedures are continuously adapted to the latest developments in European regulations.
  • Organizing and coordinating flights: from preparation and safety checks to required documentation and operational agreements.
  • Organizing and providing safety training for drone operators and researchers.
  • Actively contributing to a strong safety culture within the research department.
  • Maintaining contacts with relevant government agencies and the national drone and aviation sector.
  • Participating in Dutch-language government and sector consultations to identify and translate developments in regulations and operational practice early on.
  • The fixed point of contact for an external test location.
  • Arranging the administrative and operational matters necessary to ensure structural and compliant flying at the external test location.
  • Working closely with researchers, engineers, drone operators, and management.

Profile

  • University level of work and thinking.
  • Demonstrable affinity with drones/UAS, drone operations/regulations, and safety.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills: maintaining an overview of permits, obligations, deadlines, and documentation.
  • Good knowledge of or strong interest in European and Dutch UAS regulations and the ability to translate regulations into practical procedures.
  • Experience in drafting, managing, and updating manuals, procedures, risk analyses, and operational documentation.
  • Able to independently organize and coordinate safe outdoor drone operations.
  • Experience or affinity with developing and providing safety training.
  • Excellent command of Dutch AND English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong communication skills and able to effectively liaise between researchers, engineers, operators, management, governments, and external organizations.
  • Independent, accurate, and critical: identifying risks and missing elements before they lead to problems.
  • Willingness to actively follow relevant developments in legislation and regulations and the national UAS sector.
  • Willingness to be regularly present on-site for outdoor operations and with external partners.
