SQL Server DBA

The DBA provides technical support for the database environment, including overseeing database development and organization, evaluating and implementing new technologies, and offering a long-term perspective to the IT department.

  • Ensure the highest possible reliability and performance of online processing database systems.
  • Collaborate with architecture, application development, and operations departments to achieve an advanced environment that meets business objectives.
  • Train and develop technical support and application department staff.
  • Design and deliver tools to support database and transaction processing environment management.
  • Establish a working model for capacity assessment and planning of the transaction processing environment.
  • Strengthen and support the DBA team.

What you do

  • Installation, configuration, and maintenance of database servers and processes.
  • Upgrading, consolidating, and migrating databases between MS SQL servers, from start to finish (preparation, execution, follow-up). This includes both simple installations and critical high-availability platforms.
  • Management of various databases in terms of performance, tuning, quality, security, availability, and consistency for MS SQL Server.
  • Provide support for Azure SQL databases.
  • Support application owners with questions and issues related to MS SQL database installation and migration.
  • Develop improvement proposals and ensure smooth infrastructure operation.
  • Proactively propose technical optimizations.

What they ask

  • Diploma in computer science, business administration, information technology, or a related field (preferred).
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server and troubleshooting database issues.
  • Initial experience with performance tuning and optimization, using monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Initial experience with backups, recovery operations, and recovery models.
  • Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) for MSSQL Server.
  • Experience implementing operational automations using scripts.
  • Experience working with Windows Server, including Active Directory.
  • Good knowledge of or willingness to develop in-depth expertise in the following areas:
  • Microsoft SQL Server (2017, 2019, and 2022)
  • Microsoft SQL Server AlwaysOn AG
  • Basic knowledge of Azure
  • Good command of Dutch and English.
