As a Marine Ecologist, you will lead a team of driven researchers who collectively work on various socially relevant ecological issues in the Southwest Delta. You will use your knowledge and experience to conduct research in the Southwest Delta, specializing in benthic fauna and shellfish. You will research the effects of human activities, such as fishing and sand nourishments, and the consequences of climate change on marine benthic animals.
You will contribute to nature development by actively restoring shellfish beds in the North Sea and the Delta. You have an affinity for applied research and working in complex policy and stakeholder environments. You initiate new research, including securing funding, and lead large projects.
What you will do.
- Act as a figurehead in the field of benthic ecology towards (potential) clients and media.
- Manage and execute large and complex research projects.
- Acquire new research assignments and write multidisciplinary research proposals.
- Maintain and expand the national and international network in the field of Delta ecology, benthic animals, and shellfish bed restoration.
- Present research outcomes to businesses, sector organizations, social organizations, government, and fellow scientists.
- As a project leader, you provide content and project-based guidance to field staff, junior, and medior researchers.
Profile
You are proactive, results-oriented, and possess excellent communication and organizational skills. You maintain an overview in complex processes, work accurately, and feel comfortable in an environment where different interests and disciplines converge.

- Extensive work experience as a researcher and project leader in benthic ecology.
- Entrepreneurship, decisiveness, easily taking initiative, good collaboration, and customer- and results-oriented.
- Good command of the Dutch language is a plus.
