Technician Quantum Nanoscience
This role supports researchers and students in designing, optimizing, troubleshooting, and maintaining research setups and experimental equipment. You will work closely with a small team of fellow technicians and specialists. The department has various laboratories with a wide range of complex equipment, including microscopes, lasers, magnets, and wet and dry cryostats. A significant challenge is the relocation of the entire department to a new building in 2028, where the technician will play a key role.
What you do
- Support researchers and students in designing, optimizing, troubleshooting, and maintaining research setups and experimental equipment.
- Coordinate with scientific staff in preparation for a relocation:
- Establish timelines with priorities and key focus areas for each laboratory.
- Compile and maintain an overview of laboratory equipment and associated specifications.
- Assess which equipment can be moved and which equipment needs to be replaced.
- Develop relocation and replacement plans.
- Balance diverse interests, test department requirements against the design and possibilities of the new facility, and provide advice to department management.
- Provide practical support in the following core expertise areas:
- Vacuum technology: pumps, leak detection, vacuum components, evacuation systems.
- Electronics and electrical engineering: electronic circuits, troubleshooting, power supplies, measuring equipment, cabling.
- Laboratory infrastructure and facilities: electrical infrastructure, cooling water, compressed gases, ventilation, HVAC/climate control.
What they ask
- HBO or university degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Laboratory Technology, Cryogenic Technology, or a related field, or an MBO degree supplemented with relevant work experience.
- Knowledge and practical experience with at least one of the core expertise areas described above.
- Fluent communication in Dutch and English.
- Professional attitude.
- Ability to function well in a dynamic environment where priorities can change quickly and creative solutions are often needed.
- Safety is paramount; willingness to follow training (laser safety, working with chemicals).
- BHV certificate or willingness to obtain it.
