This assignment involves further developing continuous optical clocks within a research group. Optical clocks have achieved extreme precision, useful for fundamental research and societal applications such as navigation. Current clocks operate in a pulsed manner, which takes significant time to reach ultimate precision. The goal is to build clocks that operate continuously, allowing ultimate precision to be reached in just a few minutes.
This is achieved by developing two types of clocks: a superradiant clock and a zero-deadtime clock.
What you do
- Join a team of PhD students and other postdocs to develop continuous optical clocks.
- Conduct experimental work with the clocks, including debugging and data taking.
- Design and construct upgrades to the machines.
- Perform data analysis and literature research.
- Write articles and contribute to funding acquisition.
- Take initiatives and develop your own creative ideas.
- Take an active role in group activities, such as master and PhD student education.
- Present your work.
- Contribute to lab organization and societal and stakeholder outreach.
