Literacy Teacher

• You will join a close-knit team and work with a small, dedicated group of students from diverse national backgrounds.
• Depending on the scope of your appointment, you will be the mentor for your group of students or work with a co-colleague who is.
• You will primarily teach NT2 (Dutch as a second language), but you will also incorporate citizenship into your program and teach CKV (cultural and artistic education).
• If you cannot teach mathematics yourself, a subject teacher is available for this. Sports are also taught by a specially trained teacher.
• The International Bridging Classes (ISK) department aims to prepare non-Dutch-speaking students for other forms of further education, such as vocational and secondary education.
• The emphasis is on learning the Dutch language in spoken and written form.
• You will work in a team of specialists and together ensure education that is tailored as much as possible to the individual student.
• The relationship between mentor and student is of great importance in this.

What they ask

• HBO (higher professional education) working and thinking level.
• Preferably a relevant teaching qualification: a Pabo (primary education) diploma, a 2nd-degree Dutch language qualification, or PDG (pedagogical didactic qualification).
• Experience with literacy education, experience in group 3 (age 6-7), and an additional NT2 qualification are a plus.
• Flexible and sensitive to the pedagogical needs of students.
• Able to assess the initial situation of individual students and adjust teaching plans accordingly.
• Able to adapt language use to the needs of students at different levels.
• Native Dutch speaker or proficiency in Dutch at C1/4F level.
• Sufficient knowledge and skills in subject content and didactics to create a powerful learning environment.

• You will work at a school with a positive and collegial working atmosphere.
• The International Bridging Classes (ISK) department provides education to students aged 12 to 17 who have recently arrived in the Netherlands and do not yet sufficiently master Dutch to follow lessons in regular education.
• The program is aimed at enabling each student to progress as quickly as possible to suitable Dutch education. This can range from practical education and work-learning pathways to vmbo, mbo, havo, or vwo, at different levels and in various academic years.
