SQL Server Database Administrator
Within a specific platform for data services and data analytics, the Data Mining & Analytics Platform (DMAP) is developed and managed. This platform is a crucial link in the information provision of a government organization. Daily, large amounts of data are securely unlocked, processed, and made available for analysis and data-driven decision-making. The current environment encompasses approximately 80 Terabytes of data, contributing to reliable service delivery for millions of citizens and employers.
A significant development is the setup of a second SQL Server environment that will function as a read-only replica. This will allow information analysts to analyze large datasets without burdening the production environment. You play an important role in the design, setup, and optimization of this environment. Additionally, you will contribute to the further development of the platform, including exploring the role that cloud technology can play in the future.
What you do
You are responsible for a stable, secure, and future-proof SQL Server environment. You work as an integral part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating daily with information analysts, ETL engineers, data engineers, Product Owners, and architects, and you directly see the impact of your work.
Development:
- contribute to the further development of the SQL Server platform
- design, implement, and optimize a second SQL Server environment (read-only replica)
- contribute ideas on the future setup of the database environment, both on-premises and in the cloud
- optimize SQL Server for analytical workloads
- optimally align databases and ETL processes (Extraction, Transformation & Load)
- advise on database design, indexing, query optimization
- identify and implement improvements in performance, scalability, security
Management:
- install, configure, and manage Microsoft SQL Server
- monitor availability, capacity
- perform upgrades, patches and migrations
- implement High Availability solutions, including Always On Availability Groups
- manage database security, authorizations
- analyze and resolve complex incidents
What they ask You are an experienced SQL Server DBA who enjoys taking responsibility and looking beyond daily management. You think in solutions, take initiative, and actively contribute to a future-proof data environment. Additionally, you possess:
- HBO (higher professional education) working and thinking level
- extensive experience as a Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator
- excellent knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL
- experience with performance tuning and query optimization
- experience with High Availability solutions, such as Always On Availability Groups
- experience with backup, restore, and recovery processes
- experience with PowerShell or similar automation
- experience with ETL processes and data integration
- knowledge of Microsoft Azure or other cloud platforms is a plus
- experience with Agile/Scrum or DevOps
