This role involves more than just reporting. Legal depth is at the core of the function, where you prepare cases, consult with judges, and draft concept rulings. You are a researcher and co-architect of the ruling, ensuring that the judge can arrive at the correct considerations and decisions.
What you will do.
- Ensure case files are complete during the preparation phase
- Clearly map relevant facts and evidence
- Request additional documents and research supplementary jurisprudence
- Sit next to the judge(s) as a clerk during the hearing and be alert to new information
- Collaborate with the judge(s) on asking the right questions
- Deliberate with the judge(s) afterwards
- Draft concept rulings as the basis for a just decision
- Delve into less common and more complex cases
- Have a coordinating role in case handling
- Share expertise with colleagues to contribute to the quality and uniformity of the work
- Potentially be deployed in other administrative law case streams
Profile
- University degree in Dutch law (bachelor and master) and knowledge of administrative law
- Over 2 years of work experience, for example in advocacy, as a corporate or government lawyer, or at a legal aid desk
- Excellent command of the Dutch language, both orally and in writing
- Ability to write legally sound and fully understandable concept rulings
- View each file as a legal puzzle and complete the picture
- Quickly make connections, distinguish main and subsidiary issues, and view a file from all perspectives
- Be an expert and critical sparring partner in the deliberation room
- Be proficient in planning and prioritizing
