The legal counsel of the Support Directorate provides transversal legal support to all services of a public organization. He/she provides expertise to legally secure decisions, procedures, and files, prevent legal risks, manage and monitor litigation, and ensure legal and regulatory compliance of the organization's activities. He/she actively contributes to the fulfillment of the Support Directorate's missions by:
- Producing legal opinions and analyses;
- Ensuring the follow-up and management of legal files;
- Integrating the legal dimension into the organization's projects and processes;
- Participating in transversal governance and quality control mechanisms.
Anticipating the legal impacts of legal and regulatory developments and, if necessary, formulating recommendations.
What you do
Legal advice and expertise.
- Produce legal analyses and opinions for the benefit of the organization;
- Ensure legal management or contribution in files requiring specific legal input;
- Contribute to the drafting, analysis, and legal securing of legal documents: contracts, agreements, leases, protocols, various deeds
- Identify legal risks and formulate recommendations.
Pre-litigation and litigation management. In collaboration with and in support of the relevant Support Directorates:
- Ensure the management or contribution to: public procurement litigation; litigation related to contracts and agreements (of all kinds); general litigation.
- Manage, in collaboration with the insurance unit, civil party constitution files;
- Manage litigation related to breakdowns; Ensure the inventory and follow-up of ongoing procedures before the various jurisdictions, courts, and tribunals.
- Analyze conclusions, judgments, and rulings and determine their consequences for the organization.
- In close collaboration with the insurance department, manage complaints and compensation files following damages: caused to property (e.g., destruction of a door, loss or destruction of evidence, etc.); caused to third parties.
Legal assistance to staff members.
- Analyze requests for legal assistance with regard to Article 52 of the Police Function Law and verify the legal conditions for granting, as well as any grounds for refusal.
- Prepare decisions for the Police College and ensure the legal and administrative follow-up of requests, from their introduction to their closure.
- Collaborate with the Insurance department for the management of the insurance aspect and ensure the transmission of necessary information for file processing.
- Ensure the follow-up of the appointed lawyer: designation, transmission of documents, follow-up of the procedure and deadlines, control of compliance with the assistance framework, and follow-up of the outcomes of the file.

- Required diploma: University - legal counsel (Master of Law)
- Number of years of experience: 4
- Holder of the Selor certificate; if not, commit to obtaining it within a reasonable timeframe.
