Night Shift Residential Support Worker

DrentheOn site36 hours/week<3months

A care organization helps people with an intellectual and/or psychological disability to lead as normal a life as possible. The organization focuses on what is possible and operates in the Groningen and Drenthe regions, spread across more than 200 locations. Collaboration between clients, their personal network, and the professional is central. Within a specific residential location, 23 clients live, divided into four groups: two children's groups, a youth group, and an adult group.

Each group has its own core team. All clients have an intellectual disability and share the need for a safe and predictable environment. Supportive communication is widely used, such as gestures, referents, photos, and pictograms. Aids such as choice folders (PECS), pointing books (PODD), speech computers, agendas, and/or other visual support may be used. Clients vary in age, level of intellectual disability, and support needs.

There are also co-occurring issues such as attachment problems, trauma, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), genetic conditions, and medical problems. This requires tailored support.

  • You work as a waking watch in shifts from 22:15 to 07:00
  • You perform practical tasks, such as light care moments, cleaning tasks, laundry care, tidying the office, and practical chores (e.g., cutting pictograms)
  • You support residents and intervene in unexpected situations
  • You observe and report carefully and ensure a clear handover of your shift
  • You tailor your guidance to the different care needs and ensure a clear handover to your colleagues
