Communication, PR and Events Officer

A department within an academic institution, specialized in engineering sciences, is looking for a communication officer. What you will do.
- Communication strategy and implementation:
- Identify communication needs and translate them into concrete actions.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of communication and PR initiatives.
- Develop communication plans for campaigns, research results, events, and educational initiatives.
- Ensure brand identity compliance and consistent branding.
- Content creation and editing:
- Write, edit, and publish content for various channels (website, newsletters, social media, press releases, brochures).
- Translate complex scientific information into accessible and engaging communication for diverse audiences.
- Manage and update the department's website.
- Media and external relations:
- Identify, stimulate, and leverage opportunities to make the expertise, achievements, and stories of staff and researchers visible to internal and external audiences.
- Assist with press communication (press releases, interviews, media requests).
- Support researchers in communicating research results.
- Digital communication and social media:
- Manage and optimize social media channels (LinkedIn, X, Instagram, etc.).
- Monitor reach, engagement, and impact of communication activities.
- Apply SEO and online communication techniques.
- Events and public engagement:
- Organize or support events (seminars, info sessions, open days, alumni events).
- Coordinate promotion and communication around these activities.
- Internal communication:
- Facilitate internal information flows within the department.
- Support management and research groups in their communication needs.
- Collaboration and alignment:
- Collaborate closely with internal teams and services.
- Maintain a strong and effective network with other research groups, departments, faculties, and external partners.
Profile
- Education and experience:
- Bachelor's degree in communication or a technical field (e.g., Civil Engineering), or equivalent by experience.
- For a technical/scientific background: a strong interest in communication and public engagement.
- For a communication/marketing/journalism background: affinity with science, technology, and research.
- Ability to bridge the gap between substantive expertise and clear communication.
- Preferably 2 to 5 years of relevant professional experience, ideally in an academic, research, or innovation environment.
- Knowledge and skills:
- Excellent written and oral skills in Dutch and English.
- Strong in storytelling and translating complex content into understandable messages.
- Experience with content management systems (CMS).
- Knowledge of social media management and analysis tools.
- Basic knowledge of graphic tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe) is a plus.
- Strong in planning, project management, and multitasking.
- Ability to work independently and involve various stakeholders.
- Able to measure and adjust communication results (data-driven approach).
