The Product Owner ensures the functional coordination and daily management of one or more projects or activity domains within an organization. He/she supports the evolution of digital tools and ensures that the developed solutions meet the expectations of the business and users. He/she intervenes throughout the lifecycle of the requests entrusted to him/her:
- understanding of needs
- formalization of expectations
- coordination with technical teams
- validation of results
- user support during commissioning
The Product Owner works within the organizational and decision-making framework defined by the organization. He/she prepares proposals, analyses, and decision-making support elements necessary for the responsible bodies, then coordinates the implementation of approved choices.
What you do
Within his/her functions, the Product Owner is notably responsible for:
- Collaborating with users and business representatives to understand their expectations, constraints, and operational needs.
- Examining existing working methods, identifying inefficiencies, and identifying opportunities for improvement with the teams concerned.
- Translating collected needs into understandable functional requirements, user stories, and conditions to verify that expected results are achieved.
- Ensuring that requests transmitted to IT teams are sufficiently precise, by clarifying business rules, exceptions, dependencies, and specific situations.
- Organizing the preservation and updating of knowledge necessary for project continuity, including business rules, operational processes, decisions made, and reference cases.
- Regularly communicating on progress, achievements, difficulties encountered, and actions to be taken with stakeholders.
Contribution to steering and governance. In addition to his/her operational activities, the Product Owner participates in the structuring and steering of his/her functional domain:
- Participating in the breakdown of organizational objectives into concrete initiatives and developments, taking into account the strategic framework approved by the competent managers.
- Developing reasoned recommendations to facilitate choices, then coordinating the necessary actions for the application of decisions made.
- Ensuring that important functional decisions are clearly documented, validated by the appropriate bodies, and consistent with user needs and project objectives.
