DevSecOps Linux System Engineer

Combined mission covering two closely related roles: DevSecOps Engineer and Linux System Engineer.

  • This assignment brings together DevSecOps automation, cybersecurity, and Linux infrastructure operations within a single multidisciplinary team.
  • Supporting mission-critical, real-time systems for a multinational client in the transportation and railway infrastructure sector.
  • Objective: ensure end-to-end reliability, security, and automation of complex hybrid environments (Linux, VMware, and supporting infrastructure).
  • Actively contribute to both development lifecycle automation and operational system stability.

What you do

DevSecOps & Automation Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain automated deployment pipelines for software and infrastructure.
  • Contribute to DevSecOps practices by embedding security across the delivery lifecycle.
  • Manage deployment tools and automation frameworks (Ansible, Jenkins, Puppet, etc.).
  • Support software releases, go-live events, and hypercare activities.
  • Evaluate and integrate new technologies to improve the DevSecOps toolchain.
  • Participate in cybersecurity initiatives, vulnerability monitoring, and risk mitigation.

Linux & Infrastructure Responsibilities:

  • Administer, maintain, and optimize Linux systems (CentOS / RedHat / Fedora).
  • Manage VMware environments (vSphere, vCenter, vMotion).
  • Provide 2nd-line support for incidents and infrastructure issues.
  • Handle patching, upgrades, and infrastructure maintenance across environments.
  • Monitor production systems for availability, performance, and stability.
  • Support infrastructure migrations and operational continuity.

Cross-functional Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to automation, scripting, documentation, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with development, operations, and security teams.
  • Support critical production environments under high-pressure conditions.
  • Occasionally assist with technical installations and on-site infrastructure activities.
  • Participate in out-of-hours interventions when required (deployments, incidents, go-live).

What they ask

  • Strong expertise in Linux administration (CentOS / RedHat).
  • Solid experience with DevOps / DevSecOps practices.
  • Hands-on VMware experience (vSphere, vCenter).
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and controls.
  • Experience with automation tools (Ansible, Jenkins, Puppet or similar).
  • Good networking knowledge (VPNs, firewalls, routers, switches).
  • Scripting skills in Bash and/or Python.
  • Experience in high-availability production environments.
  • Fluent in English and either French or Dutch.
  • Master’s degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of IT experience.
  • At least 3 years in DevOps / DevSecOps environments.
  • At least 3 years in cybersecurity-related activities.

Nice to Have:

  • Monitoring tools: Nagios, Zabbix.
  • Elastic Stack / Kibana.
  • Databases: MySQL / PostgreSQL.
  • Git, Jira, Confluence.
  • Puppet Open Source.
  • Development tools (IntelliJ, Eclipse, VS Code).
  • Programming languages (Java, C, C++).
