This role goes beyond mere quality. You will work on quality, food safety, safety, prevention, sustainability, and environment across various business units of a family-owned company. You will be close to the shop floor, with direct lines to the CEO, and ample room for initiative and impact. The company is a Belgian family business, founded in 1948, that has grown into an international partner for food professionals with approximately 350 employees.

It combines the strength of an international group with the informal and pragmatic culture of a family business.

What you do

You will lead a fixed QESH team of four employees, consisting of a QESH Officer (also a prevention advisor and point of contact for sustainability and environment), two Quality Officers for trading and wholesale activities, and a Quality Officer for production. Your mission is to further develop QESH, combining technical expertise with people management and collaborating across various departments.

  • Certification & standards: Manage and optimize the quality management system and monitor various standards, including IFS, BRC, FCA, BIO, RSPO, ACS Groothandel, Choprabisco, Rainforest Alliance, and Fairtrade. Coordinate audits and serve as the point of contact for certification bodies.
  • Organization-wide work: Collaborate with production, purchasing, logistics, and other departments on quality, food safety, safety, environment, and sustainability.
  • End-to-end risk management: Analyze risks at suppliers, raw materials, and logistical processes to ensure quality and food safety throughout the chain.
  • Close to the shop floor: Regularly conduct rounds, speak with employees and managers, provide training, and stay in touch with what is happening on the shop floor.
  • Legislation, compliance & advice: Monitor legislation, RASFF alerts, certification requirements, and translate changes into clear guidelines and actions. Advise management on important QESH issues.
  • Projects & optimizations: Contribute your expertise to projects and optimizations.

What they ask

  • Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Bio-engineer, Food Technology, Chemistry) or equivalent by experience.
  • Relevant work experience in a quality management function within the food industry.
  • Good knowledge of HACCP, BRC, IFS, and other relevant quality and food safety standards.
  • Fluent in Dutch (speaking and writing) and good professional knowledge of English and French.
  • Experience in managing and coaching a team.
  • Proficient with digital tools and systems.

Profile

  • Connecting: You know how to engage both management and employees on the shop floor in the QESH story.
  • Improvement-oriented: You see challenges as opportunities to improve processes and results.
  • Strong communicator: You switch smoothly between the shop floor, employees, and management.
  • People manager: You get the best out of your team and give employees space to develop further.

Practical

You join the organization at a crucial moment, where QESH is a fundamental strategic pillar. You will be given room to shape the QESH policy, with a clear mandate and the necessary decision-making authority. This is a key position within a growing organization with a professional SME environment, short communication lines, and direct management involvement. The role is broad and versatile, with variety and impact throughout the entire organization. You will help build a team and enable employees to grow.
