What you will do. You will automate the rollout, configuration, and registration of data center, network, and platform services with tools such as Ansible, Terraform, NetBox, GitLab CI, and Python. You will build an internal platform that enables colleague teams to securely and standardizedly procure infrastructure themselves. The focus of your work may include:
- Bringing the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) as a single source of truth into order, from which network and infrastructure configuration originates.
- Connecting to a shared automation landscape by building an event-driven orchestration layer that automatically leads from a self-service portal request to a deployed, registered, and monitored service.
- Building compartmentalized research environments for sensitive research, with a focus on segmentation, access, and demonstrability.
- Reconsidering the virtualization layer, including researching alternatives such as Proxmox and their impact on network, storage, and physical infrastructure.
- Improving observability to achieve measurable reliability, going beyond mere monitoring.
You will co-determine the technical direction and be given the space to make choices, initiate improvements, and introduce tooling, and you are expected to be able to explain these choices to colleagues or stakeholders who may have different opinions.

- You have automated infrastructure in production with code (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, Pulumi) and can articulate what went wrong and what you learned from it.
- You program in Python or a similar language at a level where you build your own tooling, not just copy scripts.
- You are proficient in Linux.
- Git and CI/CD are a way of working for you, not just a tool you use occasionally.
- You incorporate security into your design, not as an afterthought.
- You enjoy collaborating with other teams and can explain technical choices to non-engineers.

- Virtualization: Proxmox, VMware, and OpenShift.
- Event-driven architecture, workflow orchestration, container platforms.
- Working in an environment with formal security and compliance requirements (Cybersecurity Act).
Experienced network and infrastructure specialists are available to teach you networking; the focus is on automation.
Profile
- You do not primarily want to advance in a hyperscaler-driven environment, as the focus is consciously on in-house infrastructure in private data centers.
- You are willing to work on cleaning up existing manual work in the environment.
- You are willing to convince other teams and encourage them to move along with automation processes.
