External Collaboration Officer

North HollandHybrid38 hours/week<3months

You will assist in setting up (international) research collaborations with research institutions and companies. The goal is to relieve researchers and limit risks for the organization. You work in a structured manner, have a healthy critical perspective, and enjoy variety. The role involves difficult trade-offs and offers significant responsibility.

What you will do.

  • You translate strategic faculty policy on research collaboration into specific research projects and clarify it for researchers where necessary.
  • You closely monitor relevant trends and developments, such as changed project funding conditions, altered EU laws and regulations (European autonomy), and geopolitical developments impacting research. You advise the board and researchers on an appropriate response.
  • You directly advise on interpreting policy and propose improvements.
  • You are actively involved in formulating policies, guidelines, and process descriptions to adequately facilitate collaboration with external partners.
  • You support the department, researchers, and the faculty board by identifying (inter)national trends and developments relevant to the faculty's research themes.
  • You advise management on the desirability of collaborations and the conditions research must meet.
  • You provide guidelines for contract terms for new research collaborations and interim adjustments to ongoing contracts.
  • You clarify possible (unforeseen) consequences or obligations for researchers arising from proposed collaborations.
  • You advise on knowledge security in collaborations with third parties in research, considering the latest laws and regulations and ethical frameworks regarding the desirability of collaborating with certain countries, industries, or partners.
  • You interpret scientific developments and translate them into opportunities and risks, providing tailored advice for themes such as dual-use, liabilities, project governance, financial risks, and intellectual property.

Profile

  • Affinity with the full breadth of exact sciences (a beta-PhD is a plus).
  • Experience in setting up research and formalizing collaborations with third parties.
  • Affinity with the legal aspects of research contracts and ethical considerations.
  • Experience with knowledge security, sanctions, and export policies of knowledge institutions.
  • Effective communication, strong advisory skills, and persuasiveness.
  • Experience with administrative processes and advising the board.
  • Good command of Dutch and English.
  • A service-oriented, collegial, integral, and proactive attitude.
  • An accurate and structured way of working.
