Intensive Residential Counselor Child, Youth and Family
A care organization helps people with intellectual and/or psychological disabilities to lead as normal a life as possible. The focus is on what is possible. The organization is spread across more than 200 locations in the Groningen and Drenthe regions. Collaboration between clients, their personal network, and professionals is central. Within a specific residential facility, 23 clients reside, divided into four groups: two children's groups, one youth group, and one adult group.
Each group works with its own core team. All clients have an intellectual disability and share the need for a safe, predictable environment. Much work is done with supportive communication, such as gestures, pointers, photos, and pictograms. Additionally, choice boards (PECS), pointing books (PODD), speech computers, calendars, and/or concepts may be used. This role focuses on the children's and/or youth groups, which involve an intensive target group with high care complexity.
Clients vary in age, level of intellectual disability, and support needs, with additional issues such as attachment problems, trauma, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), genetic conditions, and medical problems. Tailored support is essential. The children's groups house eight children up to eighteen years old, mostly clients with severe intellectual disabilities (EVB+) and complex care needs. The youth group consists of seven young people aged 12 to 20, with varying levels of intellectual disability (from LVB to EVB+).
