Intangible Heritage and Participation Officer
This archive center of an academic institution is responsible for the document management and archive policy of the institution and for the national secular heritage work in Flanders. As a recognized cultural heritage organization, the center preserves, manages, and unlocks the heritage of the secular community. In the coming years, the center aims to focus more strongly on the intangible heritage of the academic community and the secular movement in Flanders.
Stories, traditions, rituals, practices, community building, and personal testimonies form an essential addition to the archives and collections that the center preserves.
What you do
As an intangible heritage and participation officer, you will contribute to developing the strategic vision of the center regarding intangible heritage. You bring heritage communities together, develop participatory trajectories based on collections, and ensure sustainable and multi-voiced documentation and safeguarding of knowledge, experiences, and practices within the secular movement and the academic community.
Within the team, you support the coordinator of the center in strategic policy development and manage the public outreach team.
- You initiate and coordinate participatory projects and actions around both the material and intangible collections of the center with the academic community, secular organizations, associations, and local communities.
- You set up projects related to oral history.
- You conduct or supervise interviews with key figures and witnesses from the secular and/or academic community.
- You contribute to the strategic policy development regarding intangible heritage and oral history within the center.
- You manage public outreach and ensure it works in perfect symbiosis with the collection management, research, and valorization teams.
- You monitor developments within the cultural heritage field and policy regarding intangible heritage and oral history in Flanders.
- You implement methodologies for collecting, registering, and sustainably preserving testimonies in collaboration with the collection management team. You ensure that collected stories connect with and add value to existing archives and collections.
- You seek collaboration with heritage organizations, archives, museums, universities, and socio-cultural organizations.
- You also prospect your network for valuable archives and material collections.
Profile
Knowledge and experience.
- You hold a master's degree, preferably in history, heritage studies, anthropology, cultural sciences, sociology, or a related discipline.
- You have relevant professional experience within cultural heritage, participatory projects, public outreach, or community-oriented trajectories.
- You have knowledge of the principles and methodologies of intangible heritage and/or oral history.
- You have insight into heritage policy and the cultural heritage sector in Flanders.
- You enjoy serving heritage communities. Supporting them to shine is what drives you.
- You have an affinity with the values and history of secular-humanist thought.
- Possessing an extensive network within the secular communities in Flanders is a strong asset.
