Technical advisor

As a technical advisor for water defenses, you will delve deep into models, parameters, and failure mechanisms. You will focus entirely on calculating, analyzing, and substantiating the safety of dikes, dunes, and quays. You will be the specialist who demonstrates with hard figures how safe water defenses are and where reinforcement is needed.

What you will do.

• Assess the safety of dikes and other water defenses and calculate the probability of damage or failure under corresponding hydraulic loads
• Analyze risks in the areas of internal and external macrostability, crest height, piping, and dike revetments, and advise on possible measures
• Develop and use calculation models to assess the strength and reliability of water defenses according to applicable national standards
• Perform risk and scenario analyses and translate the results into practical advice for projects and management
• Provide a substantive contribution to dike reinforcement projects and safety assessments
• Draft and update policy documents, (technical) notes, and advice on the safety, assessment, and reinforcement of water defenses

What they ask

• Minimum of a completed technical HBO/WO education, such as civil engineering, geotechnics, hydraulic engineering
• University-level working and thinking ability to analyze complex technical issues and translate them into well-substantiated advice
• Experience with calculation models for water defenses, such as D-Stabillity, Riskeer, D-Geo Flow is a plus
• Strong analytical skills and enjoyment of modeling and calculation
• Accuracy, structure, and a keen eye for detail
• Ability to clearly present complex calculation results to various target groups, both orally and in writing
• Ability to contribute to writing policy documents and reports
