This PhD project investigates the complex relationship between dietary factors, metabolic disturbances, and COPD pathology.
- The goal is to understand how diet-induced metabolic alterations and metaflammation contribute to the development and progression of COPD.
- The project aims to provide a basis for innovative nutritional and pharmacological intervention strategies.
- You will be part of a department within an academic medical center and embedded in a multidisciplinary research environment.
What you do
- Investigate whether diet-induced metabolic alterations are associated with metaflammation and influence the risk of COPD.
- Investigate the potential attenuating effects of targeted nutritional or pharmacological interventions.
- Unravel the complex relationship between dietary factors, metabolic disturbances, and COPD pathology using innovative data analysis techniques.
- Present findings at (inter)national conferences.
- Report research in scientific publications.
- Work in an interdisciplinary clinical environment.
What they ask
- A master’s degree (MSc) in Data Science, Epidemiology, (Bio)Medical, Health, or Nutritional sciences.
- Strong interest in the research area of metaflammation, dietary factors, metabolic disturbances, and COPD pathology.
- Interest in advanced data analysis if your master’s degree is in (bio)medical or nutritional sciences.
- Preferably experience with working with large datasets in statistical software packages such as R, Python, or SPSS.
- Proficiency in English at C1 level or higher (CEFR), both written and spoken.

- Work accurately and meticulously.
- Able to work independently as well as as part of a team.
- Open to learning new data analysis techniques and approaches.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.

- A 12-month contract with the prospect of a 3-year extension by mutual satisfaction.
