As a muskrat controller, you contribute to the safety and stability of dikes and other hydraulic structures. You work in urban and rural areas, particularly in the varied landscape of polders, ditches, and nature reserves. It is an independent outdoor position, where water, nature, and animals are central. Muskrats dig tunnel systems in banks and water barriers, which can endanger their stability. The core task is to track down and catch muskrats.
What you do
- Searching on foot for traces leading to muskrats, with aids such as quads and boats if necessary
- Taking responsibility for a trapping area, but always willing to help colleagues in other areas
- Drawing up trapping plans in collaboration with colleagues
- Making and repairing trapping equipment
- Digitally recording findings, catches, and hours worked
- Following up on reports and communicating with, for example, farmers and land managers
- Providing information about muskrat control
Profile
You are genuinely enthusiastic about working outdoors and contributing to the safety of dikes. Additionally, you live in or near the work region.

- At least a completed MBO (intermediate vocational education) diploma
- In possession of swimming diplomas and at least a B driving license (BE driving license is a plus)
- Good physical condition and health, as this job is physically demanding. A field test and medical check are part of the application procedure.
- Possibility to follow a BBL (vocational learning pathway) program to obtain an MBO diploma, with a prospect of permanent employment upon good performance and successful completion of the training.
