Truancy Officer

As a truancy officer, you focus on students aged 4 to 18 and monitor compliance with the Compulsory Education Act. You provide advice to prevent absenteeism/dropout, investigate why young people drop out, and actively contribute to solutions to combat dropout and early school leaving. Collaboration with others, such as schools and institutions, is very important in this regard.

What you will do.

  • Ensure the implementation of the Compulsory Education Act (1969).
  • Handle truancy reports from schools and discuss absenteeism with young people and parents/guardians.
  • Establish contact with network partners, schools, youth care, the Public Prosecution Service, and other institutions.
  • Conduct interviews with young people and/or their parent(s)/guardian(s).
  • Advise network partners and provide information about the Compulsory Education Act in schools.
  • Ensure (preventive) coordination and participate in consultations with relevant chain partners.
  • Be present at school as part of support teams (in the case of primary education, only by invitation).

Profile

  • HBO (higher professional education) work and thinking level.
  • Knowledge of compulsory education legislation.
  • Social and communication skills, coaching skills.
  • Affinity with children and/or young people.
  • In possession of, or willing to obtain, the BOA authorization domain III to enforce in cases of unauthorized school absenteeism.
  • Willingness to give (occasionally) an evening presentation at a school or an information session.
