As a Lead Mechanical Engineer, you coordinate multidisciplinary industrial projects from specification to delivery. You translate client requirements into equipment and installation designs, manage engineers, and monitor technology, planning, and costs. You work on a project basis as an independent professional, directly liaising with clients and responsible for your own project administration.
The technical core involves specifying and designing tanks, pumps, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and complex mechanical installations in process environments, including FAT/SAT and strength calculations, for leading production and refining facilities. You will work for an engineering firm that designs, develops, and optimizes processes and machines for the industrial sector, with a focus on Oil & Gas, Food & Pharma.
The firm works for large production companies and refineries, supporting them in improving facilities, automated pipeline systems, and energy efficiency. Safety, sustainability, and emission reduction are central to the projects. Within the organization, multidisciplinary collaboration is emphasized, with significant attention to technical depth and a pragmatic approach to achieve concrete client objectives.
What you do
- Specify equipment, such as tanks, pumps, cooling towers, heat exchangers, and pressure vessels
- Prepare equipment lists, datasheets, and technical specifications
- Prepare RFQs and approach suppliers for datasheets and quotations
- Check supplier equipment drawings
- Prepare cost estimates for mechanical equipment and installations
- Check supplier quotations for technical and commercial content
- Prepare for and participate in FAT and SAT tests
- Design complex technical installations and constructions
- Perform engineering work for mechanical systems
- Create concept, basic, and detailed designs of machines and machine parts
- Prepare assembly drawings, welding details, and workshop drawings
- Perform strength calculations for machine parts, welds, and bolted connections
- Select purchased parts suitable for specifications and design
- Be involved in material selection for equipment and constructions
- Support the Head of Mechanical Department with department planning
- Acquire industrial projects and, after award, distribute tasks among engineers
- Manage projects from assignment to delivery
- Independently execute projects based on an agreement, including own administration and invoicing
What they ask
- Minimum a BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- 5 to 10 years of relevant work experience in the industry
- Experience as an independent professional or the ambition to work as such
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary project environment
- Ability to prioritize and work in a planned manner
- Proficient in English communication (must)
- Command of Dutch is a plus
