PhD Candidate Rehabilitation Medicine
This PhD position focuses on innovative home rehabilitation for people after a stroke, at the intersection of technology, data, and rehabilitation care. Within a national research program, various academic, commercial, and patient organizations collaborate on innovative technologies for home care in chronic conditions. As a PhD candidate, you will research how technology can contribute to personalized rehabilitation for people after a stroke (CVA).
You will develop and validate technology for measuring and improving fine hand and arm movements, such as IMU technology and markerless motion tracking. Additionally, you will investigate the integration of this technology into an online coaching platform for home rehabilitation. You will work closely with other researchers within the consortium on sensor data, data analysis, and personalized interventions, and validate the technology in longitudinal and cross-sectional studies with patients.
What you do
- Coordinate and conduct research into measuring fine hand and arm movements in people after a stroke.
- Work in both the movement laboratory and patients' home situations.
- Develop and validate measurement instruments and algorithms for objectively recording hand function.
- Integrate technology into an online coaching platform for home rehabilitation.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret research data from longitudinal and cross-sectional studies.
- Publish and present research results in scientific articles and at conferences.
- Collaborate with PhD candidates, postdocs, rehabilitation physicians, physiotherapists, engineers, and companies within the consortium.
- Contribute to the further development of the intervention based on user experiences and research results.
- Conclude the project with a doctoral thesis.

- Experience with clinical research and/or technological innovation, or the motivation to develop further in this area.
- Good oral and written skills in Dutch and English.
- Strong organizational skills and a proactive work attitude.
