Dementia is one of the fastest-growing diseases. This research applies recent developments in preventive factors and blood measurements of the disease process to improve care for people with memory complaints in primary and secondary care. The main goal of this project is to improve dementia prevention by understanding risk and protective factors, and developing prognostic models that help determine dementia risk in general practice and memory clinics.
During this research, you will use clinical data, brain imaging, and other predictors to understand which individuals with cognitive complaints are at the highest risk of complications, and how a model can better guide care. This project is a collaboration between the departments of Epidemiology, Radiology & Nuclear Medicine, Neurology, and Geriatrics within an academic medical center.
What you do
- Assess research participants at the outpatient clinic and in the study center.
- Collect data from medical records and analyze the obtained data in relation to the research questions.
- Present results at (inter)national conferences, in scientific publications, to lay audiences, and in your dissertation.
- Contribute as a registration physician for reports within a prion disease registration center, in close collaboration with the local outpatient clinic for the diagnosis of rapidly progressive dementia.
- Collaborate within a national prevention consortium and participate in a population-based cohort study with long-term data on the incidence of dementia.
Profile
You are a driven researcher with an interest in brain diseases, eager to combine science and clinical practice to make an impact on the care for people with memory complaints.
- A (nearly) completed university degree in Medicine.
- Interest in healthcare and (quantitative) science, and a desire to contribute to nationally and internationally leading research.
- A good command of both English and Dutch is required.
