A Product Design Lead is sought for a leading organization.
- You will join the Digital Products department, which builds apps and websites used daily by a large audience.
- You will define the overarching design direction and make decisions that go beyond individual teams, ensuring all products feel like one recognizable and inclusive experience.
- You will report to the Head Product and coach the department's Product Designers.
- Product discovery and research fall outside this role; the focus is on product design vision and the concrete design of UX & UI.
What you will do.
- Establish an overarching design vision for the department and translate it into shared guidelines and patterns that all teams can reuse.
- Guide design processes affecting multiple products to a decision, together with the involved Product Owners and Product Designers.
- Make the final decision when design choices from different teams conflict.
- Act as a fixed point of contact for product design for marketing, content, and data & AI, translating their needs into strong product design.
- Monitor design quality across all products, with inclusive and accessible design as the standard.
- Coach all Product Designers and elevate craftsmanship across the teams.
- Serve as a sparring partner for Product Owners, Designers, design and Creative Directors, and Brand Managers.
- Utilize AI in the design process for ideation, prototyping, and guideline management, and help designers do so critically and responsibly.
Profile
- At least 8 years of hands-on experience in product design (UX and UI) for high-reach digital products, and still willing to contribute to design where necessary.
- A strong aesthetic sense, combined with systems thinking, thorough knowledge of design systems (tokens, components, and patterns), and practical knowledge of accessibility (WCAG) and inclusive design.
- Demonstrable experience in making and defending design decisions across multiple teams or products.
- A coaching, servant leadership style: you elevate the craftsmanship of designers in different teams without taking away their autonomy or becoming a bottleneck.
- Pragmatic, decisive, and independent, with the persuasive power to defend your choices and a smooth rapport with creative profiles.
- An open, experimental attitude towards AI in product design, with a clear understanding of where it adds value and where human judgment must prevail.
- Fluent in Dutch (C2) and English (C2-1).
