PhD Candidate neural mechanisms of psychoanalytic therapy for depression

• Coordinating a clinical study and performing prospective data collection, such as participant recruitment and inclusion, clinical measurements, MRI planning, data management, and preprocessing.
• Performing statistical analyses of MRI and clinical trial data.
• Writing scientific articles that collectively lead to a dissertation.
• Actively participating in scientific meetings within an academic medical center, an academic workshop on depression, and relevant national and international conferences.

What they ask

• A completed Master's degree in Neuroscience, Psychology, Biomedical Sciences, or a comparable field, with demonstrable affinity for the brain and psychological functioning.
• Experience with scientific research and statistical analyses, preferably within brain research.
• Experience with neuroimaging analyses is a plus.
• Experience with coding (R, Python) and/or neuroimaging software is a plus.
• Clinical experience, for example with diagnosis or treatment as a (neuro)psychologist, is a plus.
• Good communication skills in Dutch and English. For patient contact, a good command of Dutch is required (B2 or higher).
• You are enterprising, proactive, curious, organization-sensitive, and patient-oriented.

• You will work within a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, researchers, research assistants, technicians, lab technicians, and students.
• You will have regular contact with research partners and clients.
• You will be embedded within a Psychiatry department and an academic workshop on depression.
• You will form a link between various research partners and the MRI facility.
• This research is a multidisciplinary project aimed at better treating chronic depression.
• You will collaborate with a neuropsychiatry team, neuroimaging facilities, and a medical psychology department.
• There is collaboration with other mental health institutions and professionals.
• The research focuses on self-pathology in chronic depression.
• In a specific study, 100 people with depression are treated with KPSP or CBT and examined with (f)MRI before and after treatment.
• You will investigate changes in the brain, their connection to self-perception, and emotion regulation to understand how psychotherapies work and which treatment is most suitable.
