Within the Appeals and Objections department of a government organization, clients can turn if they disagree with a decision made. When a client appeals or objects, the previously made decision is reconsidered. This is done by re-evaluating the client's situation. The goal is to ensure that clients know where they stand and receive what they are entitled to, ultimately leading to a solution where the client feels seen, heard, and helped.
What you do
As a physician in the Appeals and Objections department, you work with fellow physicians, occupational experts, and legal professionals within a results-oriented team. The first year is largely dedicated to an internal basic training in insurance medicine, under the supervision of an occupational health specialist. There is ample time for clients and to reach a well-considered judgment. This first year also provides space to further develop your advisory and communication skills and to motivate decisions.
After successfully completing the basic training, it will be jointly determined whether the training to become an occupational health specialist will be continued. You report to the manager of Appeals and Objections.
You are responsible for reconsidering the assessment in which the physician in the primary process has expressed their view on the client's capacity for work and for handling medical aspects of objection and (higher) appeal cases within the relevant legislation and jurisprudence, taking into account the social context. This includes, among other things, that you:
- Determine the medical condition, weigh various factors, and argue whether the capacity for work has been correctly established
- Provide a reconsideration of the medical aspects of the primary decision for objection, appeal, and higher appeal cases
- Provide feedback/advice to the physicians in the primary process to improve the quality of decisions
- Are responsible for the medical part of the decision-making under the supervision of the occupational health specialist for Appeals and Objections

- BIG-registered (Dutch healthcare professionals register)

- Preferably, experience in the field of insurance medicine, or demonstrable interest, for example through an elective clerkship
Practical
- In the first year, you will be given the opportunity to follow the internal basic training in insurance medicine. After the basic training, you can specialize as an occupational health physician - insurance physician profile through a medical postgraduate training (MVO). This 4-year training is paid for by the organization. Exemptions are possible for medical specialists
