Sub Project Leader Safe and Sustainable by Design
In this role, you will guide the transition to a safe and sustainable chemical sector by translating scientific knowledge into feasible practical solutions. You will have the opportunity to position yourself at the intersection of innovation, government policy, and industry, building a valuable and broad network within a leading knowledge network. What you will do.
- You will bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and the daily practice of chemical companies
- Your goal is to help the chemical sector transition to safe and sustainable substances and processes from the initial design phase
- You will set up projects around safe and sustainable chemistry
- You will bring together the necessary parties for these projects
- You will ensure that scientific and policy knowledge reaches companies in a usable form
- You will bring together parties from across the chemical chain in physical and online workshops, meetings, and sounding boards
- You will keep everyone actively involved and help companies integrate SSbD principles into their research and development
- You will closely monitor new legislation, market developments, and technological trends
- You will translate these insights into usable tools, guidelines, and practical examples
- In addition to this substantive work, you will take on the organization of projects, setting up sub-projects and monitoring planning
- You will coordinate with all involved partners and identify opportunities for new collaborations
- You will ensure the continued growth of the expertise center
- You will effortlessly switch between substantive sessions with researchers and discussions with companies that want to know what this knowledge concretely means for their product line
Profile
- A higher professional education (HBO) or university (WO) degree in a field such as (applied) chemistry, chemical technology, environmental science, life sciences, or industrial ecology
- Several years of work experience with innovation, R&D, or process development in the chemical sector
- Affinity for topics such as toxicology, circularity, or legislation (e.g., REACH)
- The ability to translate scientific insights into clear, practical applications
- Excellent communication skills in Dutch (and preferably English) to make complex knowledge accessible to diverse target groups
- A pragmatic work style that maintains an overview of multiple projects
- Takes responsibility and smoothly switches between substantive coordination and necessary practical arrangements
- A proactive and results-oriented attitude
- The ability to independently identify opportunities, take initiative, and ensure projects run smoothly from start to finish
- A sense of proportion in a complex field, allowing you to easily establish contacts, build relationships, and stimulate collaboration at strategic, substantive, and policy levels
Practical aspects. You will be part of a department where 19 passionate scientific staff and policy advisors work. The department focuses on Safe and Sustainable by Design for both chemical substances and materials, as well as the early detection and reduction of risks from (complex) nanomaterials and substances of very high concern in a circular economy. There is ample room for personal ideas and initiatives. For this position, you will start with a one-year agreement, focused on current projects.
If suitable opportunities arise, the collaboration will continue after this year.
