Policy Officer Water and Soil

The Water and Soil program team strives for clean, sufficient, and safe water and a vital soil. Clean and sufficient water are crucial for an attractive, economically vital, and future-proof area. Unfortunately, water quality almost nowhere meets the set goals, and water availability is increasingly under pressure.

Therefore, within the Water and Soil program, efforts are fully focused on improving water quality, the availability of fresh water, and making the area climate-resilient, as laid down in the Regional Water and Soil Program (RWP) (2022-2027).

What you do

  • Substantively assess and advise on subsidy applications submitted under the water and soil subsidy scheme
  • Be the point of contact for parties involved in project implementation
  • Monitor progress, coordinate programming, and seek solutions for questions/bottlenecks
  • Advise on (municipal) spatial plans regarding water aspects
  • Advise in several integrated areas (area-specific approach) on water and soil aspects
  • Support in the preparation for concluding a new covenant; including consultation with partners, drafting content, and preparing administrative decision-making
  • Deployment for monitoring ongoing matters
  • Project leader to achieve adaptation of rules in the water management attention zone
  • Support in quantifying irrigation space from Natura 2000 per area-specific approach

  • Recent (not older than 7 years) and demonstrable work experience as a Water and Soil policy officer within a government organization with partnerships (government organizations and/or social organizations) within the physical domain
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience in the field of water and soil challenges, specifically:
  • Water quality
  • Water availability and drought
  • Groundwater
  • Area-specific approach (GGA)
  • Natura 2000 water challenges
  • Climate adaptation
  • Advising on spatial plans
  • Subsidy schemes within the water and soil domain
  • Minimum of a completed HBO education (higher professional education), preferably in the field of Hydrology
