Data Governance & Compliance Officer
An organization in a regulated environment is looking for a Data Governance & Compliance Officer. In this assignment, you will strengthen the organization-wide framework for data governance and compliance. You will bring together business objectives, legal requirements, and good data management practices, enabling the organization to manage its data reliably, transparently, and responsibly.
You will work within the Risk Office, report to the Digital Compliance Manager, and act as the connecting link between Business, IT, Security, Risk, Legal, and Privacy.
What you will do. Data governance and policy.
- You will develop, maintain, and communicate the Data Governance roadmap, aligned with business objectives and regulatory priorities.
- You will develop and optimize policies, procedures, standards, and controls for data governance.
- You will analyze shortcomings and compliance issues and implement corrective and preventive measures.
- You will monitor the documentation of business concepts, data classification, metadata, data lifecycles, and data quality rules.
Compliance and data protection.
- You will support and monitor compliance with the Data Act, GDPR, and other applicable regulations.
- You will contribute to the implementation and monitoring of controls related to retention periods, access management, data protection, and privacy by design.
- You will align governance policy with, among others, GDPR, NIS2, the Data Act, and sector-specific requirements.
- You will work closely with the CISO, DPO, and the Legal, Risk, and Security teams to strengthen data compliance within the organization.
Data ownership and stakeholder management.
- You will define clear roles, responsibilities, and governance bodies.
- You will guide and train employees with a data role.
- You will lead the Data Governance Community and chair the Data Governance Board.
- You will represent data governance in strategic programs, initiatives, and steering groups.
Process improvement and change management.
- You will analyze and improve data-related processes with a focus on efficiency and accuracy.
- You will collaborate with platform and architecture teams to integrate governance by design into tools, platforms, and technical architectures.
- You will build support for new governance practices and guide their application within the organization.
Training, maturity.
- You will strengthen data literacy among employees and management and foster a data-driven culture.
- You will contribute to the development of training materials, articles, and internal communications.
- You will define KPIs for governance activities and objectives.
- You will monitor the maturity, adoption, and results of data governance.
Profile
- You have 3 to 4 years of experience in data governance, data management, or IT governance.
- You have experience in a regulated and/or complex organization.
- You are familiar with collaboration between business, IT, architecture, and platform teams.
- You have knowledge of data products, master data, data quality frameworks, and regulations such as GDPR, the EU Data Act, and the AI Act.
- You communicate fluently with both senior business stakeholders and technical experts.
- You have professional working knowledge of English and Dutch or French.
Pluses.
- Technical insight into modern data platforms, such as Snowflake, dbt, or AWS.
- Practical experience with data catalogs, data quality, data lifecycle management, and BI tools.
