As a Basic Doctor / ANIOS in geriatric medicine, you will have ample opportunity to discover which specialty suits you best. Geriatric medicine is more versatile than you might think, with patients presenting multiple puzzle pieces simultaneously: somatic, psychiatric, medication, behavior, family, and quality of life. You will look beyond a single diagnosis and quickly gain significant personal responsibility. In short: a place where you, as a doctor, will learn an immense amount in a short time.
What you will do. You will work with vulnerable elderly people within various forms of care, such as psychogeriatrics, somatics, acquired brain injury, Parkinson's disease, geriatric rehabilitation, first-line care, and palliative care. The diversity makes this role interesting. You will be responsible for various departments within one or two care locations and collaborate with Geriatric Specialists, AIOS (doctors in training), Nurse Specialists, Physician Assistants, nurses, psychologists, and paramedics.
After your induction period, you will work independently, with accessible supervision from a Geriatric Specialist.
- Perform medical examinations and make diagnoses
- Establish and adjust treatment plans
- Conduct ward rounds in your departments
- Lead the multidisciplinary treatment team
- Have extensive contact with patients, family, and other healthcare professionals
- Supervise medical students (coassistenten)
- Participate in on-call duties: approximately one evening/night every two weeks and a maximum of one weekend every six weeks
