As a speech therapist / clinical linguist, you help children and young people in a top clinical setting to progress in their speech and language development. Clients are between 4 and 23 years old and have a - suspected - language development disorder (LDD). Parents, school, and/or primary care speech therapy often experience difficulties in supporting the child.
You will work at a specialized outpatient clinic, a department specialized in intensive, short-term treatment and diagnosis of speech and communication problems in children and young people and their parents. You will be part of a fixed, experienced, and multidisciplinary team of several colleagues, including speech therapists, linguists, and a neuropsychologist.
What you will do. As a speech therapist and clinical linguist, you will divide your time between diagnosis, treatment, and advice. As a speech therapist:
- You collaborate with the research and treatment team and parents to find new treatment approaches.
- You contribute to the communicative development of children and young people with LDD.
- You treat children within the specialized outpatient clinic using all your speech therapy knowledge and skills.
- You actively involve parents in the treatment and discuss it with them afterwards.
- As a member of the multidisciplinary team, you make a substantive contribution to the treatment plan.
- You advise the client's environment (family members, teachers, fellow speech therapists) on communication and provide psychoeducation.
- You are involved in intake or diagnostic research where necessary.
As a clinical linguist:
- You use your broad knowledge of speech and language problems to map out the often complex picture of the client.
- You provide advice to the system around the client, looking at the coherence of speech and language development with other developmental areas.
- You perform in-depth and differential diagnostics for clients with a specific need for help regarding their language development.
- You identify strengths and weaknesses and determine a possible LDD or action-oriented diagnostics.
- You stay informed of scientific developments within linguistics.
- You contribute to improving care and advise on policy development within your field.
- You serve as a point of contact within the team for advice and coaching on clinical linguistic issues.

You dare to take on a guiding and coaching role and know how to convey information clearly to others. You can manage a planned care schedule with associated deadlines. You enjoy an independent role and can plan effectively between diagnostics, coaching, and ad-hoc advice.
What they ask As a speech therapist:
- A completed HBO diploma in Speech Therapy and registration in the quality register.
- Preferably extensive work experience with speech and language diagnostics and treatment.
As a clinical linguist:
- A completed academic degree for the clinical linguist function (master's or doctorate) in one of the following studies: (Sign) Linguistics, General Linguistics with the study route Language Development and Disorders, Clinical Linguistics, Speech- and Language Pathology, Neurolinguistics, Language and Speech: processing and disorders, or Speech Therapy Sciences.
- Preferably, registration with the Professional Association for Clinical Linguists (VKL).
- Preferably extensive experience in (linguistic) diagnostics with a complex target group, including analysis methods such as STAP, FAN, MAIN, and/or Frog Story.
