As an institutional worker, you ensure safety and structure within a correctional facility. The role demands self-confidence and stress resistance. You supervise and actively contribute to the reintegration of detainees. You balance strictness and humanity to help detainees towards a better future.
What you will do.
- Monitor the atmosphere in the department, being alert to tensions and disturbances.
- Conduct mentoring conversations with detainees, guiding and supporting them in their personal trajectories.
- Check the exercise yard and ensure it is safe for use by detainees.
- Perform urine controls, remaining vigilant for abnormalities and potential safety risks.
- Carry out administrative tasks, such as booking visitor appointments and maintaining files.
- Wake detainees, open doors, and escort them to appointments or activities.
Profile
- Demonstrable MBO 4 work and thinking level (assessed with a capacity test).
- Good physical and mental condition.
- Good communication skills in Dutch, both verbal and written (e.g., for reports).
- Willingness to work irregular shifts.
- You set your boundaries, conduct firm conversations, and are not easily flustered by problems or challenges.
- You are empathetic, able to understand the detainees' world, while maintaining professional distance.
- You enjoy working with people and helping them progress, even when they show resistance, by remaining calm, setting clear boundaries, and acting with conviction.
Practical aspects.
- On-the-job training by an experienced colleague and a 6-week internal training course.
- New monthly schedule, communicated 6 weeks in advance, with the possibility to indicate preferred working days and times.
