For a retail group with multiple store chains and e-commerce, we are looking for an interim specialist for the central distribution center. You will join an organization where daily logistics operations directly impact store supply and e-commerce order processing. There is much to improve, and the client is clear about this:
- Roles and responsibilities are not always clear
- Planning and forecasting provide insufficient guidance for personnel deployment
- The distribution center is highly dependent on temporary staff
- Agreements and performance are not consistently followed up
- Bottlenecks, errors, and exceptions cost time
- Collaboration between logistics and other departments can be improved
You will analyze the situation, determine priorities, and implement improvements yourself. You will report to the COO and the Head of Logistics and work daily with the managers in the distribution center.
What you will do.
- Clarify roles, ownership, and consultation moments
- Set up or improve weekly planning, capacity planning
- Better organize the deployment of permanent employees, flexi-workers, and temporary staff
- Address bottlenecks in warehouse processes and aim for fewer errors, higher productivity, and better quality
- Introduce a limited number of usable KPIs, a dashboard, and a fixed follow-up rhythm
- Coach the Head of Logistics, Logistics Coordinator, and Team Leads in management and follow-up
- Improve alignment with operations, retail, buying, e-commerce, IT
What they ask for.
- Several years of experience in logistics operations, including experience in a warehouse with at least 50 employees
- Experience in retail, fashion, e-commerce
- Previously implemented operational change and able to concretely explain what you adjusted, how you got people on board, and what the results were
- Experience as an interim manager or with change management in an operational environment
- Enjoy being on the shop floor
- Able to make decisions, coach managers, and ensure agreements are executed
- A background as Head of Logistics, Distribution Center Manager, Warehouse Director, or Operations Director can be a good fit
Practical
- Reporting to the COO and Head of Logistics
- Focus on operational improvement and strengthening internal managers
- You will embark on an assignment with real operational challenges and a concrete goal
- The expectation is that you will not stop at a consulting report: you will have the opportunity to implement changes on the floor with the team and see the results
