As a director of public works, you make an important contribution to the quality and safety of public spaces within a governmental organization. You focus specifically on contracts and collaboration concerning public spaces. You are responsible for accountability and advice regarding the budget and quality of these components of public space. Together with a team of supervisors, you ensure that all work is carried out according to agreements, specifications, and contracts.
What you do
- Directing and adjusting external parties and other contractors based on specifications and contracts.
- Translating policy and management plans into practical, actionable agreements at street level.
- Monitoring quality, planning, budget, and safety during execution.
- Coordinating supervision and ensuring that findings from supervisors and reports from residents are addressed.
- Identifying bottlenecks and making concrete improvement proposals to the Programming department and the chain team.
- Working in on-call services where you are also present on-site outside regular office hours in case of urgent reports (e.g., sewer failures, subsidence, or unsafe road situations) to manage the situation safely if necessary.
Profile
- Solution-oriented and communicatively skilled.
- Proactive and can easily alternate between independent work and teamwork.
- Good at communicating with various stakeholders and easily navigates between different parties, from executing parties to colleagues within the Management & Maintenance chain and residents.
- HBO (higher professional education) work and thinking level through education or experience.
- Knowledge of public space management (green, grey, clean).
- Knowledge and/or experience with CROW methodology and RAW framework agreements.
- Knowledge and/or experience with GIS systems and case management systems.
- Insight into or affinity with chain management and the PDCA cycle.
- Flexible availability, sometimes outside regular office hours.
