Forensic Trace Investigator

South HollandOn site36 hours/week<3months

Do you want to contribute to the investigation of crimes? Your findings from trace analysis can make a difference in the detection and prosecution of suspects of serious offenses. As a forensic trace investigator in the Biological Traces (BiS) division at a government organization, you are responsible for the trace investigation conducted, which can be of great value in the criminal justice chain.

Trace investigation is becoming increasingly complex because more information can be extracted from increasingly smaller (invisible) traces. The research question "from whom could the traces originate?" is shifting more and more towards "how could the traces have ended up on a trace carrier?". The investigation strategy must be coordinated with colleagues.

In addition, in many cases, trace investigation is carried out simultaneously by multiple areas of expertise present within the organization (multidisciplinary research). You will start with training as a trace investigator through an onboarding process that takes place in the lab, guided by experienced employees. This trajectory will focus on complex and multidisciplinary trace investigation. The training program of approximately 2 years will conclude with a practical and theoretical exam.

In addition, continuous education ensures that you stay informed of developments in the field. Throughout your career, your competence as an investigator will be assessed every five years. You will perform your duties within the framework of an ISO-17025 quality system.
