An experienced Cloud Modernization Architect is sought to lead the assessment, design, and execution of cloud modernization initiatives across AWS and Azure environments. The role will focus on modernizing and migrating workloads, including those currently hosted on Azure VMware Solution (AVS), toward secure, cost-efficient, scalable, and portable architectures.
The successful candidate will define modernization roadmaps, drive re-platforming and re-architecting decisions, and provide technical leadership across cloud migration and modernization initiatives while working closely with CloudOps, Security, Infrastructure, DevOps, and Application teams.
What you do
- Assess workloads running across AWS, Azure, and Azure VMware Solution (AVS) and develop comprehensive modernization roadmaps.
- Apply appropriate migration strategies including rehost, replatform, refactor, retire, and retain.
- Lead migration of AVS-hosted VMware workloads toward hyperscaler or on-premises infrastructure.
- Plan and execute VMware-to-cloud migration using Azure Migrate, HCX, or equivalent tools.
- Lead the modernization and re-architecture of legacy and monolithic applications.
- Drive adoption of modern architecture patterns including containers, serverless, and managed services.
- Develop and maintain AWS and Azure architecture standards and reference architectures.
- Modernize traditional Golden AMI-based deployments toward immutable infrastructure and container-based deployments where appropriate.
- Drive cloud cost optimization, including rightsizing, reserved capacity, savings plans, and elimination of over-provisioned resources.
- Conduct Well-Architected Framework reviews and convert findings into actionable modernization backlogs.
- Define and implement Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) standards using Terraform or similar technologies.
- Establish CI/CD standards to support repeatable and automated deployments.
- Work closely with Security teams to embed security, vulnerability management, and compliance controls into cloud modernization initiatives.
- Provide architectural guidance across Cloud, WAF, PKI, IAM, and infrastructure security.
- Identify opportunities for automation and self-service to reduce manual operational effort.
- Ensure appropriate resource tagging and governance across cloud environments.
- Collaborate with technical and business stakeholders and provide regular updates on modernization progress.
What they ask
- 10+ years of experience in Cloud Engineering, Cloud Architecture, or related roles.
- At least 4+ years of hands-on experience with AWS and/or Azure.
- Proven experience leading cloud migration and modernization programs.
- Strong hands-on experience with VMware virtualization, including:
- VMware vSphere
- VMware NSX-T
- Azure VMware Solution (AVS)
- Experience planning and executing AVS/VMware workload migrations using Azure Migrate, HCX, or equivalent tools.
- Strong knowledge of AWS and/or Azure core services and cloud modernization services.
- Strong experience with Terraform or similar Infrastructure-as-Code technologies.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
- Strong understanding of cloud security, including:
- IAM
- WAF
- PKI
- Vulnerability Management
- Security Governance
- Compliance
- Experience with cloud cost optimization and FinOps practices.
- Experience with workload rightsizing, reserved capacity, savings plans, and cloud cost governance.
Preferences.
- AWS Solutions Architect or Azure Solutions Architect certification.
- AWS Security Specialty, Azure Security certification, or equivalent.
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration.
- Experience with Docker, EKS, AKS, or similar technologies.
- Experience with event-driven architectures and technologies such as:
- Kafka
- AWS SNS
- AWS SQS
- Experience with VMware Cloud / AVS / large-scale VM-to-cloud migration programs.
- Experience working in large-scale enterprise environments.
- Knowledge of GDPR and EU regulatory/compliance requirements.
- Experience in highly regulated or critical infrastructure environments is an advantage.
