Data & Business Consultant
A consulting firm helps organizations in the social housing sector extract more value from their data by combining knowledge of data, BI, technology, and the sector. For this role, a Data & Business Consultant is sought to help clients gain control over their data issues, improve processes, and translate information needs into concrete and workable solutions.
You will work at the intersection of business, data, and technology, directly with clients, forming the link between their organization and technical colleagues. You operate at strategic, tactical, and operational levels. Success in this role means clients better understand and use their data, issues are reduced to their core, and solutions actually lead to improvement. You monitor agreements, progress, and deadlines, and know when to escalate in a timely manner if needed.
You don't need to be a data engineer, but you understand data, can analyze issues, and are comfortable in discussions with both business and technical colleagues.
What you do
- Advise clients on data governance, data quality, data ownership, and responsibilities.
- Support organizations in setting up and further developing the role of data steward.
- Understand business processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Support clients in actually realizing and implementing improvements.
- Gather, analyze, and translate business and information needs into clear functional requirements and concrete solutions.
- Critically question wishes and requirements to distinguish between the actual problem and the solution initially requested.
- Prepare functional designs for Power BI dashboards and other data solutions.
- Evaluate dashboards, data models, and functional designs from the perspective of the user and the organization.
- Analyze data to identify deviations, trends, bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities.
- Translate outcomes from advisory projects into concrete and actionable tasks for technical leads and data engineers.
- Guide clients in further professionalizing their data-driven way of working.
- Manage client agreements at operational, tactical, and strategic levels, including monitoring planning, progress, and deadlines.
- Timely signal and escalate when progress, quality, or agreements made are under pressure.
- Identify client needs and developments that can contribute to the further development of the consulting firm's products and services.
Profile
The organization is looking for someone who is curious, analytical, and proactive. Someone who listens well, but also dares to ask critical questions, can provide direction, and challenge a client when a different approach works better. You can make complex subjects understandable and easily switch between different levels within an organization, from management to users and data engineers.
You have a feel for organizations and relationships, knowing when to persuade, inquire further, or adopt a more tactical approach. In short, someone who understands the client, analyzes the problem, forms their own vision, and can clearly translate it into concrete results.

- Experience with independently advising and guiding clients.
- The ability to operate at strategic, tactical, and operational levels.

- Experience in translating organizational needs into functional requirements and practical solutions.
- A good understanding of data and how organizations use data for steering and decision-making.
- Experience with Power BI, data governance, and/or data quality is a plus.
- Knowledge of SQL is a plus, but not a requirement.
- Experience with organizations in the social housing sector is a clear plus, but not a requirement.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- A practical and pragmatic attitude; you not only advise but also help to actually convert ideas into results.
- Good command of the Dutch language, both spoken and written, is required.
Practical
This role offers significant scope to co-shape the position and further develop the consulting services. You will work directly with clients and closely with technical and functional colleagues.
