Personal Caregiver for Elderly Care
Aging with an intellectual disability requires more than just good guidance. It requires someone who maintains an overview, brings calm, and sees what residents need. We are looking for a Coordinating Caregiver who is steadfast, warm in contact, and energized by guiding aging clients and supporting colleagues within the team.
What you will do. As a Coordinating Caregiver/Personal Caregiver, you are the connecting link between residents, colleagues, family, and therapists. You work with the group, but at the same time, you also look broadly at the quality of care and guidance. You support aging clients with an intellectual disability, some of whom require physical care or are wheelchair-bound.
Some clients need full ADL (Activities of Daily Living) support, while others primarily need proximity, structure, and guidance appropriate to this life phase. You are responsible for coordinating care processes and, together with the team, ensure the continuity of guidance. You work methodically and have a coaching role towards colleagues. You support with medication and signal when health or behavior changes. Specifically, this means you:
- support clients with daily guidance, care, and social contacts
- provide ADL care where necessary, including working with patient lifts and other aids
- draw up, monitor, and evaluate support and treatment plans
- participate in multidisciplinary consultations (MDOs) and maintain contact with relatives and other disciplines
- stimulate collaboration and coordination within the team
- identify and discuss bottlenecks or special circumstances with the manager
- ensure structure, clarity, and calm within the residence
Profile
You are someone who maintains an overview without becoming distant. You are clear, calm, and know how to involve colleagues without taking control.
What they ask
- a completed MBO level 4 education in care or guidance
- affinity with aging clients with an intellectual disability
- experience with ECD (Electronic Client Dossier) and methodical reporting
- experience with ADL care and medication support
- a signaling and coaching attitude
- the ability to work independently and in a team
- willingness to work irregular shifts and sleep shifts
Preferences.
- experience with MDOs and collaboration with legal representatives
- experience with guiding interns or trainees
Practical
You work on a 24-hour schedule with irregular shifts and sleep shifts. The residential location is modern and has three floors. It houses 19 aging clients between 52 and 88 years old with an intellectual disability and additional physical care needs. Each resident has their own apartment. There are two shared living rooms. The team consists of approximately 17 colleagues. The atmosphere is engaged, warm, and collegial.
Care is provided based on experience-oriented care, aligning with the life phase, needs, and possibilities of each client. This sometimes requires activation and stimulation, and sometimes slowing down, calm, and proximity. The work is personal, meaningful, and sometimes intensive.
