Security Engineer Communication and Information Systems Operations

As a Security Engineer at a national security organization, you ensure that the platform that unlocks cameras, radars, and sensors operates demonstrably securely and is accredited in production.

• The security measures have been determined; your job is to implement them.
• You devise how a measure will technically look, divide the work into work packages, and build most of it yourself.
• You do this on an extensive platform ranging from data centers to mobile command centers and rapid response vehicles.

What you will do.

• Contribute directly to national security by ensuring that the sensor data platform demonstrably meets applicable security requirements and operates accredited in production.
• Implement defined security measures on a crucial platform that brings together sensor data. Think of hardening, encryption, access management, and a secure OTAP street up to production.
• Build and operationalize security services: from logging, monitoring, and detection to vulnerability management and hardening. Translate architectural principles into working, manageable services.
• Secure a cloud and open-source stack in a self-built environment, integrating security from the start.
• Include Operational Technology (OT) in scope and help bridge the gap between IT and OT security.
• Prioritize tasks in a rapidly growing environment and make well-founded choices.
• Monitor the progress and quality of implementation and provide the product owner with technical acceptance criteria.
• Work closely with the platform's product owner, architects, and the management & development teams.

What they ask

• A completed HBO or WO education.
• Demonstrable several years of experience as a security engineer in a role where you built things yourself, not just maintained them.
• Broad technical expertise across multiple (information) security domains from frameworks such as BIO & ISO27001.
• Experience with (cloud) infrastructure and a strong affinity with open-source tooling.
• The ability to prioritize and provide direction in an environment without ready-made answers.
• Good communication skills to translate technical information to various stakeholders.
• A proactive, independent attitude.

Bonus points.

• Relevant security engineering certifications (e.g., CISSP, GIAC GCSA, GIAC GICSP).
• Demonstrable skills in Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response (SOAR) and in hardening containers and Kubernetes.
• Experience with or affinity for OT security.
• Experience in implementing measures in a classified or national security chain environment.
