This role involves leading technical aspects of COBOL application development within a technology organization. The focus is on design, development, maintenance, and modernization initiatives. Collaboration with stakeholders and coaching team members are essential.
What you do
- Design, develop and maintain reliable, scalable and performant COBOL applications
- Perform technical analysis, solution design, debugging and troubleshooting
- Take ownership of critical applications, batch processes, incidents and production support
- Work with SQL databases, ensuring data integrity and optimal performance
- Coordinate testing, deployment and validation across different environments
- Identify technical improvements and contribute to application modernisation initiatives
- Maintain technical documentation and ensure the quality of the application landscape
- Coach colleagues and share technical knowledge within the team
- Explore practical applications of Generative AI and Microsoft Copilot to improve development productivity, testing, documentation and code quality
- Collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to translate innovative ideas into secure, measurable improvements
What they ask
- 10+ years of professional experience in advanced COBOL application development
- Strong knowledge of SQL databases, particularly SQL Server and/or DB2, including performance optimisation
- Extensive experience in technical analysis, solution design, debugging and troubleshooting
- Proven experience with application maintenance, testing, deployment and production support
- Experience working with complex applications and transversal stakeholders in large IT environments
- Knowledge of functional analysis, database and data model design, and structured testing concepts
- Understanding of application modernisation and integration with other technologies
- A genuine interest in Generative AI, Microsoft Copilot and intelligent automation
- A coaching mindset, strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to work autonomously
- Fluent Dutch or French, with the ability to understand both languages
