An organization is looking for a 3D Modeller to help develop realistic XR training environments for critical public safety and security operations. In this role, you will contribute to the creation of high-quality assets and immersive scenarios used to train personnel for a wide range of operational situations. You will join a multidisciplinary innovation environment focused on XR, robotics, and counter-UAS capabilities.

Working closely with developers, artists, project leads, and operational users, you will help shape training content that is both technically strong and closely aligned with real-world requirements.

What you will do.

  • Create detailed 3D models of characters, vehicles, props, weapons, and environments in Blender.
  • Develop realistic textures and materials using PBR workflows.
  • Optimize assets for real-time performance across XR platforms by refining topology, LODs, poly counts, UV layouts, and texture sizes.
  • Prepare, export, and integrate Blender assets into Unity, ensuring correct scale, pivot points, materials, and naming conventions.
  • Build immersive environments, buildings, and props that accurately reflect operational scenarios.
  • Prototype and iterate quickly on assets and environments to improve the training experience.
  • Maintain clear documentation on asset pipelines, naming standards, and related processes.
  • Stay up to date with evolving 3D art and XR tools, methods, and best practices.

What they ask

  • Strong proficiency in Blender, including modelling, sculpting, UV unwrapping, texturing, and material creation.
  • Experience creating 3D assets and/or environments for games or XR simulators, supported by a strong portfolio.
  • Good understanding of PBR texturing workflows and tools such as Substance Painter or Substance Designer.
  • Experience optimizing assets for real-time rendering on VR, AR, or MR platforms.
  • Experience exporting and integrating assets into a game engine, preferably Unity.
  • Excellent eye for detail, proportion, and realism.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams.

Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in 3D Art, Game Design, Animation, or a related field, or several years of proven industry experience.
  • A comprehensive portfolio showcasing relevant work is required.
  • Previous experience with police, defence, or other security services is considered a plus.
  • Experience with 3D scanning and digital reconstruction, including LIDAR and photogrammetry, is an advantage.
  • Experience in operational training environments is also a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with 3D scans and their optimization is considered beneficial.

Practical

  • This is a long-term consulting opportunity within a multidisciplinary public safety and innovation context.
  • Language requirements: fluent Dutch, fluent English, and/or French.
