Buyer
Purchasing within the organization was long something everyone did a bit on the side. Each department had its own suppliers and each contract was in its own folder. A temporary professional established policies and procedures for this last year, and that foundation is now in place. We are now looking for someone to build upon this. The exact shape of the role will be determined in collaboration with the management team.
What you do
Additionally, you will guide upcoming purchasing processes, from inquiry to signature, and enter all new contracts and suppliers into an ERP system. You will be the point of contact for an external facility service provider, who performs almost all facility work. You will monitor whether they deliver what has been agreed upon.
Not just focused on the lowest price. The organization manages its funds responsibly, but cheap purchasing is not the goal. The question is whether the quality needed is obtained for that money. Sometimes this means you will look for a new supplier. Often, it means you will make better agreements with the existing supplier. Or you will get involved earlier, before the decision has already been made.
You are the sole buyer. There is no purchasing department, but a management team that considers this function important. You fall under Business Operations and report to a member of the management team. Furthermore, you will collaborate closely with the controllers and financial administration.
Purchasing is new to the organization. A colleague who has known their supplier for ten years will not immediately cheer if you come along with a better alternative. There is absolute support for the purchasing function, but everyone needs to get used to it. This means you will often be at someone's desk rather than behind your own screen.
The temporary professional will remain for a while to train you and transfer their files.
What they ask
- You have managed purchasing processes from start to finish, from specification to contract.
- You have a clear vision of how you set up contract administration (and subsequent management).
- You are firm in discussions about performance and SLAs, without jeopardizing the relationship.
- You have an affinity with systems and know how to use them effectively.
- You work and think at HBO (higher professional education) level, preferably in purchasing or business administration.
Practical
The organization was founded by and for the transport and logistics sector. With approximately 150 colleagues, the organization ensures that the sector retains enough skilled people.
