Youth Residential Counselor

You guide young people aged 15 to 18 in their personal development, independence, and undertaking of activities.

  • The goal is for young people to be able to live independently from the age of 18 in an asylum seekers' center, their country of origin, or their own home.
  • There is a lot of freedom for (group) activities with the young people, such as cooking and sports.

What you will do.

  • Guide young people in their personal development and independence.
  • Organize (group) activities.
  • Act as a shadow mentor in complex cases and conduct methodical discussions.
  • Perform daily tasks such as room checks, registering new residents, conducting intake interviews, and providing information.

What they ask

  • Empathetic, professional, and able to set boundaries.
  • Activating young people without taking too much initiative, allowing them to develop themselves in various areas.
  • Preferably several years of experience with this target group.
  • Availability for day, evening, night, and weekend shifts (night shifts are always wake-up shifts). This is a strict requirement.

Profile

  • Education: Minimum completed Mbo-level 4 education in an agogic field (e.g., Social Work, SPW, Personal care assistant, Specific target group supervisor, or Pedagogical employee).
  • Work experience: Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge of methodical guidance and intercultural communication.
  • Personality: Stand firm. A passion for music or creative talent is a plus.

Practical

  • You will work at a newly opening reception center that accommodates unaccompanied minor foreign nationals (UMF).
  • A team consists of 15 to 40 employees, including youth workers, residential counselors, and behavioral experts.
  • The organization attaches great importance to integrity and reliability. A pre-employment screening is conducted, consisting of at least the following components: application for a Certificate of Conduct (VOG), diploma and certificate verification, identity check.
  • The organization has been accommodating asylum seekers in reception centers since 1994, providing basic facilities and guidance.
