The forensic psychiatric department serves as a link between justice and mental healthcare. It treats patients (men and women) who have committed an offense and have a psychological disorder. They often suffer from a severe psychiatric condition (SPS), and comorbidity is more common than not. Frequently, there is substance dependence, a mild intellectual disability, acquired brain injury, and sometimes autism, ADHD, or a personality disorder. The department has 30 clinical beds.
The treatment has two main goals: improving the psychological condition and reducing the risk of recidivism. The overarching treatment philosophy is recovery-oriented care (SRH). In the field of addiction, the CRA (Community Reinforcement Approach) is used, where alternatives to substance use are sought with the patient that are more rewarding than the use of substances. The team consists of over 45 colleagues, with more than 35 in the nursing and care team and approximately 10 therapists.
The team works methodically, decisively, efficiently, and multidisciplinarily, with humor and perspective, to provide the best possible care and support tailored as much as possible to the patient.
What you do
As a permanent night shift worker, you are, together with your colleague, responsible for the guidance and support of patients during the night.
- The night begins with a handover where you are informed of all important details of that day.
- Throughout the night, you observe and anticipate situations where patients need you.
- Where necessary, you escalate in consultation with the on-call supervisor and security.
- You are also responsible for various administrative tasks and dispensing medication.
- A maximum of 140 nights per year may be worked.
- If you work more, you will also perform some day shifts monthly to maintain contact with patients and colleagues.

- Pedagogical or nursing professional knowledge at a minimum of MBO level.
- Experience in the treatment and guidance of clients/patients with psychological and/or psychiatric problems.
- Ability to perform duties with a high degree of independence within established guidelines, procedures, and frameworks.
- Interpersonal skills and social abilities for guiding individual and groups of clients/patients, even in emotionally intense situations.
- Specifically, tact, empathy, ability to motivate, stimulate, negotiate, confront, and handle conflicts are important.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Be integral and reliable.
